Notes/Domino 4 and 5 Forum

A strange problem on my hand.

I have 4 address books in my Domino Directory.
POP users can access their mail file only if they are listed in the primary address book.

If I copy the person document to any of the other address books and delete the original one they are unable to log in with a pop client.
The following error appears on the notes log:
02/01/2005 03:54:16 PM POP3 Server: Authentication failure for JohnDow: Username not found in the Name and Address Book

They are, however, still able to log in with a browser to read web mail.

What could be the reason for this?
