In this section of Lesson 1, you will learn about the steps needed to configure your IBM SmartCloud™ Notes® (SmartCloud Notes) hybrid environment.

Learning objectives

After completing this section, you should be able to:
  • Set a password for your first SmartCloud Notes company administrator account.
  • Set your company's country, language and time zone settings.
  • Log onto the IBM SmartCloud for Social Business (SmartCloud for Social Business) service as the first company administrator.
  • Download and run the Pre-Configuration Test tool to identify any errors in the setup of your on-premises environment.
  • View logs to verify the Pre-Configuration Test Tool Output.
  • Configure the SmartCloud Notes Hybrid environment
  • Download and run the Domain Configuration tool to configure the on-premises server environment to work with SmartCloud Notes.
  • View logs to verify Domain Configuration Tool Output.
  • View logs to verify the Pre-Configuration Test Tool Output.
  • Run the Pre-Configuration Report option and verify the output.
  • Verify configuration tool updates in the Domino® on-premises documents.
  • Initiate® a trace command from the Domino on-premises Passthru server to the Domino on-premises Mail server.
  • Use the Configuration Test tool in the SmartCloud Notes web admin UI to test the connections from SmartCloud Notes to on-premises.
  • Verify ownership of your Internet Domain.
  • Activate your SmartCloud Notes account.

Steps to log onto the IBM SmartCloud Notes (SmartCloud Notes) Hybrid service as the first company administrator.

2. Exercise 1.7: Selecting a Hybrid Account Setup
Steps to set up a IBM SmartCloud Notes (SmartCloud Notes) Hybrid account.

3. Exercise 1.8: Lotus Notes Hybrid Pre-Configuration Tool
Download and run the Pre-Configuration Test tool to identify any errors in the setup of your on-premises Domino environment.

4. Exercise 1.9: Setting Up an IBM SmartCloud Notes Hybrid Account
Steps to set up the IBM SmartCloud Notes (SmartCloud Notes) Hybrid account, including uploading the certifier id, and specifying passthru server, mail routing server, mail server base name, and Directory Sync server.

5. Exercise 1.10: Prepare for Account Activation- Domino Configuration Tool
Run the Domino Configuration tool to configure the on-premises Domino server environment to work with IBM SmartCloud Notes, and verify the output.

6. Exercise 1.11: Validate Environment Configuration
Run trace commands to verify connectivity from Passthru server to on-premises servers, etc.

7. Exercise 1.12: Verifying Ownership of your Domain
Steps to verify your internet domain.

8. Exercise 1.13: Hybrid Account Activation
Learn of the Configuration Test tool and activate a IBM SmartCloud Notes Hybrid account.
