Overview
In
IBM SmartCloud Notes (SmartCloud
Notes), certain policy settings are enabled by default. These cover the functional areas of the product related to security and performance.
The Policy Synopsis Tool in the
Lotus®
Domino® Administrator client can be used by on-premises administrators to determine policy settings for SmartCloud
Notes users.

Glossary
| Term | Definition |
| Organizational policy | An organizational policy automatically applies to all users registered in a particular organizational unit. |
| Explicit policy | An explicit policy assigns default settings to individual users or groups. |
| Pre-defined policy | A policy that is pre-defined by default for SmartCloud Notes users. The pre-defined policy settings configure default security and performance options for SmartCloud Notes users. |
| Policy synopsis tool | The Policy Synopsis tool is a tool that allows administrators to determine the effective policy governing a selected user. Note: the Policy Synopsis tool will be covered in more detail in Exercise 2.2: Creating policies for SmartCloud Notes users to mirror your policies for on-premises users. |
