About this task
The directory synchronization servers and primary mail hub servers are often in one Domino domain, but they can be in two domains. For example, you can use two domains, and have a directory synchronization server and a primary mail hub server in each domain. Or you can have directory synchronization servers in one domain and primary mail hub servers in another domain.
Procedure
- Prepare one Lotus Domino server to use for directory synchronization, or two, to provide failover. You can use Lotus Domino servers that are already set up in your environment, or install and set up new servers.
- Make sure that the servers meet the server version requirements.
- Make sure that the servers meet the certifier requirements.
- Give the LLNServers group access to each directory synchronization server:
- Open the Server document of each directory synchronization server.
- Click the Security tab.
- Perform one of the following steps:
- Add LLNServers to the Access server field.
- Clear the users listed in all trusted directories check box and make sure that the Not access server does not prevent access to LLNServers.
- Verify that the Notes domain specified in the directory profile is correct:
- Open the directory.
- Click Actions -> Edit Directory Profile.
- Verify that the Domain defined by this Domino Directory field specifies the unique primary Notes mail domain for the directory.
Note: The Pre-configuration Test tool that you run to check your on-premises environment during hybrid configuration also verifies the domain name.
- If a directory to be synchronized includes users to be provisioned for the service, make sure that the Person documents for these users have valid Internet addresses:
- Open the Person document in the Domino directory.
- On the Mail section of the Basics tab, verify that the Internet address field has a valid address, for example, sdaryn@renovations. A valid Internet address includes an Internet domain that is owned by your company, defined in a Global Domain document, and validated by the service.
- If a directory to be synchronized is in a different Domino domain than a directory synchronization server, perform the following steps:
- Create a replica of the directory on each directory synchronization server. Each replica of a particular directory must use the same path and file name on both directory synchronization servers.
- Schedule regular replication of the directory between each directory synchronization server and the source directory server in the other domain. If the directory includes users to be provisioned for the service, you must schedule two-way replication. If it includes only on-premises users, just one-way replication is required, from the other domain server to the directory synchronization server.
Preparing to synchronize an extended directory catalog
An extended directory catalog (EDC) is supported for read-only use in a hybrid environment. An EDC aggregates entries from multiple Domino directories. It enables your service users to use one directory to look up names from multiple directories, including directories with only on-premises users.
