Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

This line needs to be removed:

"Guest User cannot:

Upload new versions of files being edited by IBM Docs (IBM Docs is an add-on. It is included as part of IBM Connections Cloud S1)."

This was true until the "Upload New Version" functionality was enabled for IBM Docs files. I just tested on apps.na with a guest user account and the guest user could upload a new major version of the file

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

I see in the List what a 'Guest User' can do:

as a member of a Community can create...'Events'.. . Neither I can see in my Apps this functionality, nor in SmartCloud Meting (New) is this functionality at disposal.

October 9, Shawn K. Iram: "There's no plans to create an "Events" portal for SmartCloud once Unyte gets shut down next month. The usage on that product was extremely low; not enough use to justify the dev cost of building something new or porting it to work with Meetings(new). "

So guys, is the 'Event' app available in Connectons Cloud or not? If yes, how should I request gain it.

I am not the only one who has really concerns about this. To interact fully in a collaborative tool, to engage the external partners (e.g. IBM Business Partner/Distributors) in a business concept and strategy though Connections Cloud community, we have to have this functionality in a nice design and shape.

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

ok , final conclusion on the guest ability to be able to invite other guests to the platform.

A Guest CAN invite another guest ONLY via the Personal Account Profile , go to 'Invite Guest'. He canNOT invite a guest via sharing a file or by being a community member. As a community Owner he can invite other guests.

What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

I actually invited a guest in an extenral company to a Community in Connections Social Cloud but he is not able to invite another guest. Actually, he (as a guest) cannot see "add" nor "invite" buttom on the Member screen. Please confirm and remove that a guest can invite another guest if my findins is correct.

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

I think that we need to remove that a guest can invite another guest... this cannot be done. The error: "You cannot share with others as a guest. The following people were not shared with: dhalugdgfk@hluafugigf.com " is displayed when a guest would share a file with a new guest.

Please correct me if I am wrong but guests don't have access to profile editing... So adding an image to their profile is not permitted..

Update - after further testing, I find that guests can @mention other members of communities where the guest is a member or owner. To @mention another user, you must add them to your Network. See the user doc. for more details.

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

This article needs to be updated to reflect the long list of things that Guest cannot do. Among the more serious: Guests cannot use @mentions (but are misled into thinking that they can); cannot view business cards or profiles; can't use chat (but are misled into thinking that Chat is functional). Could the CIO or whoever is responsible enable these features for Guests or redesign the UI to make the limitations more obvious?

can external guests view the member list of a Smartcloud Engage Community? If yes what level of detail is visible? I'm not 100% sure having read this thread & it's an important question for us, thanks.

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do

Recent experience with a client also indicates.

Can't see a guests updates on guest profile pages (though they appear in thh community updates)

Guests can't follow blogs or communities - this is particularly problematic if they are using on their mobile device as there is no way to get ideation blogs into their blog top level blogboard. You have to go under the community.

Guests can't be mentioned in posts (don't appear in @ search) - this basically wrecks your ability to draw in particular clients ont eh community.

Guests also can't use @ mentions and notify IBMers, no-one appears in their search - so they think the product doesn't do this.

Job title, picture and organization are the only information available for guests - can't see their email address to contact them - so as you can't notify them. They do get updates when their content is commented on though but it all drives down through their inbox. Which isn't where we want them to be looking we want to engage them on their mobile device.

At the moment the guest function looks like a lot of inbox spam generation, which is exactly what we want to show them how connections can help them avoid.

Found another one.... if an Announcement is posted for users to see, its not added as a header bar for guest users, nor is it viewed in recent updates. I'm not sure Guest Users can see "Announcements"

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do in IBM SmartCloud Engage

I also came across another aspect we should add to the Guest User "cannot do" list.....that is....view the results of a survey if they are made available to all users immediately after completing a response. The only choice I can see Guest Users have under "more" on the survey page is to "Take Survey", whereas, paid subscribers can view the survey results if they are made accessible to community users. If your are selling product and want to quickly do a survey for responses that aid group consensus, guest users can't see the current results of the responses to know which group they prefer to side with. This may be important for guests to know if they are involved in aligning with certain product groups as part of their choice made in a survey.

Re: What a "Guest User" can and cannot do in IBM SmartCloud Engage

I think we need to add to the list of things that a guest user can't do. One of the most critical aspects I've noticed is that guests cannot follow what's happening in a community space, so the only way they can get get updates are through their notification preferences. For the true social media users out there, not seeing what's new in an active community makes it very hard to follow along with topics, even as guests. It actually discourages use by guests, particularly those that need to follow along: -).

Re: What about Connections desktop plugin and Connections mobile apps?

@Jacob Andersson - from quickly testing, guests can access content from the Connections mobile app, but cannot access from Connections Desktop plugin. I cannot speak on behalf of our product managers, but in my experience in working with my customers, majority of them don't want to take the time to download, install, and access when they have limited capabilities already. Remember that the purpose of a guest is to have some capabilities to effectively collaborate with the party who has shared a file, invited them to a community, or participate in an activity - it is limited by intent for a reason. Those that use it more often tend to make the investment with SmartCloud into a subscription account and then have full capabilities.

Should have IBM Docs edit capabilities

To boost the usage of IBM Docs guest users should be able to edit with IBM Docs. Today if sharing a file to a guest the IBM Docs feature is a limitation, therefore we keep using the old fashion way by just uploading those Microsoft files...

come on let the guests have access to sametime instant messaging or give paid subscribers the ability to add contacts from external IM services(gtalk, aim, yahoo, sametime). I want my customers to be able to IM me but I don't want to have to run multiple IM clients to make it happen...
