Best Practice Makes Perfect

A collaboration with Domino developers about how to do it and how to get it right in Domino

Everybody please read the new whitepaper on how to write well-performing Notes/Domino apps. I've pulled together information from a lot of sources, interviewed people in Iris, and generally tried to hit the most important recommendations and get the answers right. I hope this will become an important resource for developers at all levels of expertise -- I certainly learned a few things putting it together.

Thank you for putting together this excellent document. It puts in one place information that was often hard to find.

I have forwarded the link to my team of developers.

However, I did caution them that in our practice, most of the time, we are optimizing for supportability (easy of code maintenance over time) rather than application performance. However, in some cases, where performance is adversely affecting the user experience, having this information will be a great benefit.

Also, many of the ideas in the paper I think are just general good design practices for Notes/Domino databases, and do not have any diminishing affect on the code supportability, so should always be used as best practices unless there is some reason not to.

Thanks again.

Wow and Rewow!

It's a very nice recap of all the available links about performance on and the Web.

Thank you,

Thank you for this wonderfully information document. Based on your recommendations, I think I will be modifying a few of my databases.

A great document. It would have saved me a lot of headeaches if I had it when I started out in the Lotus Notes world 10 years ago ;-)
