Best Practice Makes Perfect

A collaboration with Domino developers about how to do it and how to get it right in Domino

Earlier, I blogged about the problem of Queryclose code being unable to prevent closure of documents in the Eclipse-based Notes client. This is SPR # AGUD7DSU3Q. At that time I described a "fix," actually a workaround since in addition to installing a new version, it requires modifying the form.

We're working on a fix for 8.5.1 that would simply fix the problem (note: as always, no information about fixes in future versions can be considered final until the version is actually released).

If you feel this is an important issue, and particularly if you feel it will block deployment of 8.5 clients in your company (or your customers), please contact Lotus Support and open a PMR to request inclusion of the fix in an 8.5 FP. This will help me make the case for this internally, in case there's any push-back on doing the FP.

Equally, if you feel this is not an important issue and you'd prefer that developer work on something else, please feel free to respond by commenting here.

Thanks

1) It may be an important issue to some...
Mael Rivera | 5/21/2009 1:08:52 PM

Many thanks, Andre, for involving the community on this issue but, personally, I'd rather see development solving SPR # OIHZ7NAPDQ - { Link } - about the bug introduced in NotesViewNavigator in 8.5 gold - which didn't exist in beta 2.

This is really a show stopper.

Not that I do not feel this is an important issue. It may certainly be for some.

Sorry for being off topic but I know you have some clout :)

@Mael, yes, we're treating that with high priority also!

3) This is a very important issue

First of I want to thank you for blogging - very useful blog.

I'm currently working on a project (Call Centre solution) where this is major issue. I saw that this was included in the fix pack for 8.0.2 so we were counting on this to be included in the fix pack for 8.5 (scheduled in June).

I did try adding the "$" field you described in your previous post about this issue but it didn't seem to solve the issue. In the solution we have a frameset with multiple frames - I added this field to all the forms in the frames.

The strange thing is that this is not an issue in my test database - but sadly it appears in my customers database. I use the same Lotus Notes 8.5 client and the settings are the same. I'm using Domino 7 but they are using 8.5 - does that affect this issue? Are there any other tricks you know about to find a short term solution?

4) Queryclose issue revisited

This is an issue for us in a few applications. It hasn't been a showstopper yet (we have a few 8.x clients) but would be an issue in a large rollout.

5) A fix for this is urgent
Jesper Kiaer | 6/19/2009 4:08:56 AM

I work for a customer with 7000 Notes users.

I work on a hugh (critical) Notes application which uses QueryClose lots of different places. They are planning to upgrade to 8.5, but this issue will for sure put a hold to that, until a fix is released.

8.5.1 should have it fixed.

7) Very Urgent - Good to hear it is fixed...
Thomas Lyngesen | 6/22/2009 3:37:18 AM

Andre, my customer with 7000 Notes client users are (at last) taking steps to move from the current 6.5 client. They have a few critical systems with many users, which will need to run flawlessly on 8.5 before the "move". We are starting system tests now - is there any way we can get a 8.5 release fix to get around this QueryClose issue (which really is a showstopper here!). Is there a 8.5.1 beta we can try and confirm that the fix "does it for us"??

8) Queryclose issue revisited

Thomas, I haven't heard of any plan for a public beta. The usual process of applying for closed betas probably is in use. There might also be a hotfix for 8.5 -- call Lotus Support.
