Best Practice Makes Perfect

A collaboration with Domino developers about how to do it and how to get it right in Domino

I just posted a new version of the ReportGenerator class on; this includes assistance for creating and filling in tables in the report, with a sample agent showing how to do that. Very simple. Have fun.

1) Error message in R6.5.6
Art Zoutendijk | 1/3/2008 6:02:14 AM

Hi Andre,

In 6.5 I got an errormessage:

Lotus Notes

Element or Navigator is invalid

Where in R7 it smoothly works.

It's line 126 in the function AddTable

m_rtnavTable.SetPosition AddTable ' so when we go seek cells we'll start with the first table.

Am I doining something wrong? I like to start using the class but need in in R6 :-)

Kind Regards,

3) R. 6.5

I'm having problems using the class with 6.5 as well. I tried using both 6.5.4 and 6.5.5. Both return an error when they reach this line in addTable: m_rtnavTable.SetPosition AddTable ' so when we go seek cells we'll start with the first table.

Any ideas why this is ?

4) ReportGenerator class now includes table functionality

I don't think I'm going to do any work on it to figure out why people would have problems in 6.5, but if someone wants to investigate and suggest a change, I would be willing to incorporate it. Certainly, I can't do anything without the error message and exact line number. At a guess, I'd say there's probably a call to a method that's not available in 6.5. But what you should really do is use a newer version.
