Attachment Check out

Please help, I am new to domino.doc and a user has passed me a problem I am unable to resolve.
When the user goes to attach a document within an email and navigates to Domino.Doc there is a checkbox to "Check out" which has a cross in it. He has to select the document and click off the checkbox up to 3 times before it stays off.
I've tried the following but there is no such registry key:

"By default, when a Notes or Outlook user accesses a Document Manager library and selects a document to attach to an e-mail message, Document Manager retrieves a copy of the document rather than checking it out.
Administrators can change the default behaviour by editing the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler\Check Out Attachments. To have Document Manager check out the document being attached, set the registry key to "Y." "
