One hidden gem in Domino 8.5 is the addition of a new view property available to views served through the classic web server. For security reasons, and due to the dynamic nature of many views, we cannot automatically allow web robots/crawlers to index Domino data. To prevent such indexing, the html generated for any view page contains:
meta name="robots" content="noindex"
However, there are some cases where this is too restrictive in a given application as the data is either relatively static and/or has no security concerns.
In Domino 8.5, users can "opt in" to such indexing, as we have added a new property to the "beanie" tab of the view properties infobox - "Allow web crawler indexing." When set, the html generated will not contain the meta tag that specifies "robots" that is typically generated on a Domino web page. The new property is outlined in red in the infobox screenshot below.
If you select this property, the generated html for your page will not have any meta tag at all, and web robots will be able to happily index your page!
Thus, Domino 8.5 allows you to control whether or not your views are open to search engines - set your data free!
