Installing the upgrade pack on a Domino server

expanded Abstract
collapsed Abstract
The upgrade pack adjusts the existing install of a Domino® server.

The upgrade pack adjusts the existing install of a Domino® server.
  1. Obtain a copy of the appropriate upgradepack executable or archive file through the distribution channel.
  2. Shut down the server.
  3. Remove all remnants of any beta copies of the extension library.
    1. In the file system, search the following directories in the Domino install:
      • osgi\extlib\eclipse\features and osgi\extlib\eclipse\plugins
      • data\domino\workspace\applications\eclipse\features and data\domino\workspace\applications\eclipse\plugins

    2. Remove files that contain domino.das, domino.services, wink, or extlib in their names.
    3. If the extension library plug-ins are in an NSF-based update site, remove or comment out this (or a similar) line in the server notes.ini file:
      • OSGI_HTTP_DYNAMIC_BUNDLES=updateSite1.nsf

  4. For Windows™ GUI mode, do the following:
    1. Run w32n_upgradepack.exe or w64n_upgradepack.exe.
    2. On the first dialog, change the location for the unpacked install files if desired. You can later install from the unpacked location by running setup.exe.
    3. Click Next to unpack the install files and start the InstallShield Wizard.
    4. Follow the wizard to complete the installation.
      • You can cancel if you do not want to install at this time.
  5. For Windows silent mode, do the following:
    1. If the response file is ready, you can install in one step by running one of the following:
      • w32n_upgradepack.exe -s -a -silent -options <response_file>
        w64n_upgradepack.exe -s -a -silent -options <response_file>

    2. Otherwise unpack the kit by running one of the following:
      • w32n_upgradepack.exe -f <kit_location> -e
        w64n_upgradepack.exe -f <kit_location> -e

    3. Then edit the response file.
      • The kit contains a sample response file.
    4. Then change to the directory with the unpacked files and run the following:
      • setup.exe -silent -options <response_file>

  6. For Unix, do the following:
    1. Create a directory for the install files.
    2. Move or copy the archive aix64.tar, aix.tar, linux.tar, sol.tar, or zlinux64.tar to the install directory.
    3. Change to the install directory.
    4. Untar the archive.
    5. Execute the following to ensure that all files are runnable:
      • chmod -R +x .

    6. Set the DISPLAY environment variable for using the UI on Unix. (xclock should display the clock to check for a working display.)
    7. For silent mode, execute the following:
      • ./install -silent options <response_file.dat>

The kit contains a sample response file.
    8. For console mode, execute the following:
      • ./install -console

If the installer does not run, ensure that all scripts in the tools directory have execute permission.
  7. For IBM® i, do the following:
    1. Copy the installation kit to a workstation and extract its contents.
    2. Sign onto the target IBM i system with a profile that has command line capabilities and the user class *SECOFR.
      • Note: You must have a proper IBM i user profile to transfer the file. See your system administrator if you cannot proceed.
    3. Create a SAVEF file on the target IBM i system with the following command:
      • CRTSAVF FILE(QGPL/QUP08531)

    4. Transfer the saved binary file to the IBM i system by using the following commands and responses on the workstation. Change the drive if C:\ is not correct.
      • ftp [IBM i system name or IP address]
Name: [Enter IBM i user profile name and press Enter]
Password: [Enter IBM i password and press Enter]
        ftp>binary
        Representation type is binary IMAGE.
        ftp>put [C]:\QUP08531 QGPL/QUP08531
        ftp>quit

    5. On the IBM i system, end all active Domino servers by using the WRKDOMSVR command with the option 6=End server.
      • Wait for the servers to end.
    6. Load and Apply the 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack PTF with the following commands:
      • LODPTF LICPGM(5733L85) DEV(*SAVF) SELECT(UP08531) SAVF(QGPL/QUP08531)
        APYPTF LICPGM(5733L85) RLS(V8R5M3) SELECT(UP08531)

  8. Upon successful completion of the install:
    • Your system contains the following program: Lotus Domino Upgrade Pack.
    • Your Domino install contains additional plug-ins for:
      • Domino Access Services (DAS)
      • Domino Wink
      • Extension Library feature Group 1 localization pack
      • Extension Library feature Group 2 localization pack
      • Extension Library feature Group 3 localization pack
      • XPages Extension Library
      • XPages Extension Library Install Handler Feature

  9. Restart the server. You can check for the new plug-ins with the following console commands:
    • > tell http osgi ss com.ibm.domino
      > tell http osgi ss com.ibm.wink
      > tell http osgi ss com.ibm.xsp.extlib

  10. For Windows uninstall, do the following:
    1. Open Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
    2. Remove Lotus Domino Upgrade Pack.
  11. For Unix uninstall, do the following:
    1. Change to the directory with the install files.
    2. Execute the following:
      • ./uninstall

To uninstall in silent mode, first edit the install script and replace -console with -silent.
