@New Engg There might be two possiblities

1. Your version of Sever is less than 8.0

2. Otherwise create new database and repeat the procedure

Re: Tutorial: Introduction to XPages - Exercise 1

Step 2 shows making a Control for the Xpage rather clicking on "XPages" in the Designer Design Elements in Domino and clicking on "New XPage" in the display area of Designer.

I clicked on XPages,

clicked on New XPage,

the named the page "xpage1" {go figure},

then dragged the control onto the xpage,

then launched the xpage using the Web Launch Icon, and Voila... xpage in my browser.

How in the world did this tutorial get out the door and REMAIN out in the world in this goofed up state? IBM QA,,,, calling IMB QA.

Re: Tutorial: Introduction to XPages - Exercise 1

Step 2 is wrong! (QA...~)

Under XPages in the Designer Design Elements, double click xpages and create an xpage.

I called it (xpages1)

Then I drag'd and drop'd the Control in Step 3 onto the xpage.

I/You/We can then see the web launch icon to click. (the web launch icon is greyed out for controls)

Tutorial: Introduction to XPages - Exercise 1

A few things that need to be fixed in this tutorial:

(1) The Screen Shot for step #2 is wrong.

(2) There are two Step #4's.

(3) In order to get the web preview to work in the first Step #4, I had to modify my hosts file on my pc to relate the correct IP address to the invalid server hostname it was trying to make a URL call to (it was trying to call hostname http://domino-dev ... the correct hostname was http://domino-dev.dom.apps.company.com... and yes, my connection document says that) .

(4) For those looking for working solutions to #5, I found the Date() command and then session.evaluate("@username").

This is a begging tutorial right?

Well your suggestions of adding time and userName is ambiguous at best.

There is no instructions on how these are to be performed...

The time was easy, but the getUserName is still cloudy.

How do I use the:

#{javascript:session.getUserName()};

there isn't any reference on how do use this new way.

You don't have an 8.5 server running (or you set the database up on local)

If you have problem running http locally tru to close all webbrowsers and also turn of all other programs running on you conputer like Skype, MSN and other programs that might access internet. You can also open a command prompt and user netstat -o to get all connections on you computer.

Robert Shaver commented on Oct 14, 2009

#4 is about adding a label to the custom control

4. Add a Label control as a test control ("hello XPages world!").

Now I see that the label was added to the custom control, not the hwPage XPage. This is not very clear in the text or the screen shot.

I would edit the text to clarify this but the last time I tried that all the images were dropped from the article. Is that bug fixed?

Robert Shaver commented on Oct 14, 2009

What value is added by hwControl?

So we create a new custom control named hwControl. We put a label control on the XPage hwPage and put "Hello xpages world" into it. Doesn't that put the text "Hello xpages world" onto the XPage? What does hwControl do?

I would prefer tutorials that guided me in not just how to do things but covered when to do them and why it's a good idea to do them.

Robert Shaver commented on Oct 14, 2009

Step 2 has wrong screen shot

Step 2 has the same screen shot as step 3. Should be for creating new XPage, not custom control.

Here is the solution

I had faced the same error, I was able to preview the form but not the xpages. But now I am able to do so with some settings in Server document.

On the server document, Please check the security tab for the following.

Sign agents or XPages to run on behalf of the invoker: Administrator/LocalServ (this is my Id)

xPage preview

ha ha ha ha... I found the "bug" which isn't really a bug :) the problem with previewing xPages lies in Build. I tought that by saving a design element domino designer automatically builds it. Well I was wrong. In order to preview the xPage, we have to build any change and best way is to enable "Build Automatically".

dr Theory commented on Sep 28, 2009

Same here 2#

Is it possible that the answer lies on server side? Is there anything specific we must enable on server 8.5?

dr Theory commented on Sep 28, 2009

Same here (404 error for xpage preview)..

I've set the ACL to have Anonymous with "Author" rights and nothing...

Any suggestions?

I am getting "404 error for xpage preview" in IE and HTTP Web Server: Item Not Found Exception in FireFox.

Not sure what went wrong...but able to preview forms

Any insight to this issue will be great.

Thanks and Regards

Stephan Wissel commented on Aug 6, 2009

@1/2: Sounds like installation problems

@2: Did u set the ACL to Allow access to anybody

@1: That page seems to be served by another HTTP server

Both:

a) make sure no other HTTP server is running (possible culprits: Skype or IIS)

b) Have the right execution rights (XPages are agents from a rights perspective)

c) For Vista: make sure you installed with the right rights

(Data in C:\Program Files is a bad idea)
