IBM Lotus Notes does not have a production license...

For the IBM recommedation: As I work and develop Notes applications for quite some customers with Notes versions ranging from R5 to 8, I have to buy, install, maintain and carry with me 4 notebooks. ;-)

Even using some virtualisation, it's quite expensive to buy all the Windows licenses (Designer is still Windows only), and time consuming to install and maintain (Windows updates!) all VMs.

Now I got everything working by setting the registry to point to the Notes 8 directories, but I'm afraid of the time, Domino Beyond comes into life.
