Re: Customizing IBM Lotus Domino V8.5.x to auto-zip mail attachments

ZIP compression on average might compress over 15% more than LZ1. If you want to convert existing native Huffman compressed attachments to native LZ1 you must follow the instructions below.

However, the instructions below will not convert existing non-compressed attachments (i.e. attachments received from the internet or non-Domino intranet SMTP relays). In this case you should usea Lotus Notes tool, for example, AttachZIP which will convert attachments to ZIP format: http://www.notesmail.com/AttachZIP

FYI

Upgrading existing attachments from Huffman to LZ1 compression

1. Enable the database property, "Use LZ1 compression for attachments", found in Database Properties --> Advanced (beanie) panel. (These settings, if enabled in the mail or other template, can be set on individual databases by a design refresh.)

2. From the server console, run the following command (without quotes): "load compact -C -ZU"

tags: lotus notes zip mail, lotus notes compression, lotus notes image optimization, lotus notes archive, lotus notes archiving, lotus notes attachments

Customizing IBM Lotus Domino V8.5.x to auto-zip mail attachments

I always thought that by enabling "Use LZ1 compression for attachment" on the database properties, all email attachments would be compressed. What is the difference between that with this method you describe ?
