Lotus iNotes is a browser-based client. All of the content that is sent to the browser is generated by the Domino Web Engine, based on various Domino design elements. Modifying these elements modifies the product. For details about customizing page generation (server aggregation) model, see the Redpaper, developerWorks articles and Domino Administrator Help listed below.
This Redpaper Domino Web Access 7 Customization
on the IBM Redbooks site provides the most detail on Lotus iNotes customization.
For a list of Notes.ini settings that you can use to customize Lotus iNotes, see the list of Notes.ini settings that begin with "iNotes_WA" on developerWorks.
Also on developerWorks, see these articles:

Lotus Notes/Domino notes.ini settings
There are some notes.ini settings that can be used to customize the way iNotes behaves. The Lotus Notes/Domino notes.ini settings
document on developerWorks lists all available notes.ini settings. Settings that affect iNotes begin with "iNotes_WA" and can be found in the "I" section
Presetting default preferences options
Another way to customize Lotus iNotes is to customize the user preferences. Lotus iNotes has a consolidated preferences screen that users access by clicking the Preferences link. The default values for these settings are retrieved from various profile documents within the user's mail file. Also, if the profile note or specified item value does not exist, then there is a default value retrieved from code that reside within the DWA Forms file.
