The current functionality requires that the user has an open session with
mail server in order for the asynchronous mail notification to function. When
the asynchronous mail notification triggers, this will initiate replication
between the server and local replicas. Note, however, that even if the Status
bar reflects that replication is taking place, new documents will not replicate
locally unless the Replicator page entry for the replica is enabled.
The fact that new mail polling, while using a local replica, is dependent on
session being open was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# PMIA6BZP3M and
fixed in Notes 6.5.5 and 7.0. The fix requires the use of the following client
notes.ini parameter: POLL_REMOTE_MAILFILE=1
With the fix, the server (including a clustered server) will be polled for
mail as long as the above parameter is being used, the Location document entry
for "Mail file location" is set to "Local", and the entry for "Mail Addressing"
is set to "Local and Server".
SPR# PMIA6BZP3M - This fix allows the local mail file configuration to poll
remote the mail file for new mail to trigger replication . If your Notes
location document specifies that mail is local, new mail polling polls the
local mail file. This fix supports polling of the remote mail file in this
This fix requires POLL_REMOTE_MAILFILE=1 in the Notes.ini and a bookmark to
remote mail file and Mail Addressing in the location doc to be Local and
In order to have server mail polling initiate, the following must be
1. The Location document's "Mail file location" entry, on the Mail tab, must
set to Local.
2. The Location document's "Mail Addressing" entry, on the Mail tab, must be
set to Local and Server.
The above will automatically trigger any new mail notifications (such as,
a sound, show a popup, or show an icon in the System Tray) that are set, as
well as trigger replication. Note: The new mail will not replicate unless the
Replicator page entry for the replicas is enabled.
None, although you can specify this setting in the NOTES.INI Settings tab of
the Configuration Settings document in the Domino Directory.
