The RM_No_Log_Objects_In_Mailbox=1 setting in notes.ini will disable transaction logging of objects in mail.box, resulting in improved router performance when large emails are being sent. This is true only for Domino versions earlier than 8.5. Notice that if a server goes down during the routing of a large e-mail then that e-mail won't be in the transaction log for recovery.
Even if the MAIL.BOX advanced database property 'Disable Transaction Logging' is not set, when RM_NO_LOG_OBJECTS_IN_MAILBOX is enabled, the file will not be logged.
This setting is absent by default. The absence of this setting has the same effect as the setting being disabled with a value of "0". When transaction logging is enabled for the server, and individual MAIL.BOX files have transaction logging enabled via their individual database property, then MAIL.BOX files will be logged.
Completely remove this setting from Domino servers, versions 8.5 and higher. Significant performance improvement work has been included in D8.5 such that this option is no longer a high leverage configuration. The D8.5 DAOS feature works more efficiently with mail.box transaction logging enabled.
For Domino versions below 8.5, set RM_NO_LOG_OBJECTS_IN_MAILBOX=1 in NOTES.INI. The performance gains achieved by doing so are significant.
This setting was introduced in Domino 6.0.5 and 6.5.3.
Starting with Domino 8.5, the benefit of this setting has been negated due to mail.box transaction logging performance improvements.
LOG_DISABLETXNLOGGING, SCHEDULE_DISABLETXNLOGGING, MAILBOXDISABLETXNLOGGING
RM_No_Log_Objects_In_Mailbox=1 disables transaction logging for all mail.box files, no matter what their database property is set to. Using this setting ensures that mail.box transaction logging is disabled during execution.
MAILBOXDISABLETXNLOGGING=1 disables transaction logging in a mail.box file when the file is automatically created by the server. Using this option ensures the setting of the database property for newly created mail.box files, but not for preexisting files.
If you want to disable transaction logging for mail.box files, use both of these setting so that 1) the logging is disabled for all cases, and 2) the database properties are consistent with the run-time behavior, thereby reducing opportunity for confusion.
