Domino and Portal server federated administration
You can administer an IBM Lotus Domino 8.0 server and an IBM® WebSphere® Portal server 6.0 or 6.0.0.1 from the Portal server administration user interface (UI) on the same Portal server.
See Configuring Domino and Portal Server federated administration.

    Out of Office service type
Specify an Out of Office service type according to whether a server cluster is comprised of IBM Lotus Domino 8 servers, pre-Domino 8 servers, or a combination of both. There are two Out of Office service types, Service and Agent. Use the Out of Office Service for clusters comprised of Domino 8 servers; use the Out of Office Agent for clusters that contain any pre-Domino 8 servers. A mixed cluster of Domino 8 servers and pre-Domino 8 servers requires an Out of Office service type of Agent.
See Designating the Out of Office service type
The new IBM Lotus Notes 8 Out of Office functionality
Notes client installation uses an Eclipse-style install manifest and update site to control feature installation.
Lotus Notes client installation continues to be available using an executable or binary, Smart Upgrade, or scripted install but Notes now sits atop the Lotus Expeditor architecture, based on Eclipse, and enables additional extension of both supplied and custom features.
See Customizing Notes installation using the install manifest.

    Composite applications
Composite applications incorporate components - such as views, framesets, documents, and other design elements - from multiple applications into a single, role-based work environment. NSF-based composite applications can be hosted on Domino servers, built using Lotus Notes applications, and accessed using Lotus Notes 8.
See About composite applications and Configuring component update for composite applications.
    Composite Apps Wiki
    Message recall
The message recall feature provides IBM Lotus Notes client users with the ability to recall mail messages after they are sent. This feature is useful when a Lotus Notes client user has accidentally clicked Send and then needs to retract the message in order to complete or modify the message content.
    See Setting up message recall.
Using the Message Recall feature in IBM Lotus Notes and Domino 8
    Large key support
Domino supports 4096-bit keys for certificate authorities, and 2048-bit keys for end entities.
    See Encryption.

    Support for LtpaToken2
The Domino server supports the new format of SSO token, LtpaToken2, which was introduced in the IBM WebSphere Server release 5.1.1. Support for the new token improves security for SSO deployments.
See Creating a Web SSO configuration document.

New features in Notes and Domino 8.0.1
    FIPS support
Support for Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2, a US federal standard for certification of cryptographic libraries.
    See FIPS 140-2 encryption libraries
Deploying FIPS140-2 certified ID and document encryption
    My Widgets
Enables end users to see and act on automatically recognized Live Text in their Notes documents, including mail, using widgets created specifically for their use.
See Configuring and using My Widgets

    Lotus Traveler
Provides two-way, over-the-air synchronization between Domino® servers and Windows® Mobile handheld devices. Lotus Notes® Traveler synchronizes e-mail, calendar, to-do, address book, and journal data in real time.
See the IBM Notes Traveler Information Center.

Messaging

    New feature
    Description
    For more information
    Message recall
The message recall feature provides IBM Lotus Notes client users with the ability to recall mail messages after they are sent. This feature is useful when a Lotus Notes client user has accidentally clicked Send and then needs to retract the message in order to complete or modify the message content.
See the topic Setting up message recall.

Security

    New feature
    Description
    For more information
    Certificate authority key rollover
Administrators can assign a new set of public and private keys to a Domino certificate authority (CA).
See the topic Certificate authority key rollover.
    Large key support
Domino supports 4096-bit keys for certificate authorities, and 2048-bit keys for end entities.
    See the topic Encryption.
    Support for LtpaToken2
The Domino server supports the new format of SSO token, LtpaToken2, which was introduced in the IBM WebSphere Server release 5.1.1. Support for the new token improves security for SSO deployments.
See the topic Creating a Web SSO configuration document.

Server

    New feature
    Description
    For more information
Update the design of enabled agents without disabling the agent
In pre-Domino 8 releases, when a design update for enabled agents occurred, the agents were disabled and stopped running. This occurred because there was no mechanism to update the agent's design and retain the original signature of the agent. In Domino 8, design update can update many enabled agents without disabling the agent.
See the topic Updating the design of an enabled agent.
    Domino-Portal Integration (DPI) Wizard
Use the Domino-Portal Integration (DPI) Wizard to configure a WebSphere Portal server to work with your Domino-based infrastructure. You can use the DPI Wizard with the Domino 7.0 server, or more recent servers. The DPI Wizard eliminates many of the manual Domino and WebSphere Portal configuration steps required to run the Domino and Extended Products Portlets, Common Mail and Common Calendar.
See the topic Running the Domino-Portal Integration wizard.

Server Commands

    New feature
    Description
    For more information
    DB2 Access Authname
The DB2 access authname command tells you what DB2 user name will be used to execute queries for a specific user and if that user is using the default query view user or a specific mapped name managed using the Domino administrator.
See the topic DB2 Access Authname.
    New DB2 group server commands:
    • DB2 Group Runstats
    • DB2 Group Runidxstats
    • DB2 Group Size
    • DB2 Group Summary
    • DB2 Group Tables
Use the DB2 Group command to obtain information and to manipulate DB2 groups. A group is a DB2 storage container that can hold one or more Notes databases.
See the topics DB2 Group Runidxstats, DB2 Group Runstats, DB2 Group Size, DB2 Group Summary, DB2 Group Tables.
    DB2 test
Runs a DB2 connection test. Creates a DB2 connection using the same user as the Domino server and then disconnects.
    See the topic DB2 Test.
    Set SystemTime
Forces the internal Domino time to be set to the operating system time. Set SystemTime is typically used to correct or prevent incorrect system time changes.
See the topics Set SystemTime and Preventing incorrect system time changes.
    Show Stat Platform
Enhancement to the statistics collected including new per-process virtual memory statistics and new disk I/O statistics. The enhancements apply to Microsoft Windows platforms only.
See the topic Show Stat Platform.
    Show Stat vm
Monitors the performance of physical and virtual memory. Show Stat vm displays a list of virtual memory usage statistics for all server processes.
See the topic Show Stat vm.
    tell adminp process mb
    Runs the Inbox Maintenance agent.
See the topics Administration Process Tell Commands and Using a server command to run the Inbox Maintenance agent.
    tell adminp process restart
The server command "tell adminp server restart" processes and updates administration process requests of each schedule type as appropriate by simulating a restart of the administration process.
See the topics Administration Process Tell Commands and Forcing an administration process request to run.
    tell router O
The server command "tell router o" lists all databases that have an active Out of Office service.
See the topic Router Tell commands and Designating the Out of Office service type.

Web Server

    New feature
    Description
    For more information
    HTML generation options
HTMLOptions capability allows Web application developers to specify form and field-specific options to control the Web engine's HTML generation.
See the topic HTML generation options.
Improving performance for upload of file attachments
To reduce the amount of memory needed to handle file attachment uploads, the NOTES.INI variable DominoMultiPartPostBufferSize can be used to control the size of the memory buffer that processes multi-part form data.
See the topic Improving performance for upload of file attachments.
