LZ1 is a compression algorithm that provides improved performance over the older Huffman algorithm and should be enabled for all databases used by Lotus Notes Clients.
Enabling the LZ1 attachment compression option does not modify existing documents that contain attachments that were compressed using Huffman. To re-compress existing attachments, ensure that this property is enabled and then run Compact -ZU in Domino 7.0.1 or later. This also works in 6.5.6 but requires the use of the notes.ini parameter DEBUG_ENABLE_LZ1_REPAIR=1. Note that this version of compact may take some time as attachments are expanded and then re-compressed.
To use this feature on any Domino release, the ODS should be at least ODS 43. In order for LotusScript agents to run, you should never activate the option on ODS 41 databases (Domino R5 format). If you do so, two consequences could arise:
- users will not see any attachment
- users should be at least an Editor in the ACL to be able to manipulate (directly or through an agent) the attachments.
