Notes/Domino 8 includes a licence to use DB2 as a data store for Domino data. This allows developers, at no additional software cost, to take advantage of some potentially useful enhancements for applications where the data is solely located in a Domino data store.
This document uses a sample application to describe four possible usage scenarios for the Domino/DB2 integration features in pure Domino applications, explaining when and how they could bring benefit to an application in terms of improved performance or enhanced functionality. Some knowledge of Notes application design will be helpful when reading this document. However, the design and coding of the sample application have been kept as simple as possible in order that the principles can be easily understood even if the reader does not have extensive application development experience.
