The permanent pen feature of Notes allows you to set a specified font, color, and text size for use when commenting within Notes documents. For example, you can set the permanent pen to always display in bold, red text, so that your comments stand out in a document

From an email or Notes document, select some text.
Screen displays a Notes document with some text. Select text within the Notes document.
Right-click the text and choose Text Properties. Change the font style, size, and color to what you want for your permanent pen.
Right-click selected text and choose Text Properties. In the Text Properties dialog, change the font style to bold or underlined, and change the font color. Close the Text Properties dialog box.
From the menu bar, choose Text -> Permanent Pen -> Set as Permanent Pen. Now, when you place your cursor in the document, your text will display in the style you selected.
With the text still selected, choose Text -> Permanent Pen -> Set as Permanent Pen. Place the cursor in the document and type something in the new permanent pen style.
To toggle between using the permanent pen and using the default text style, click Text -> Permanent Pen -> Use Permanent Pen, and check or uncheck this option.
Click Text -> Permanent Pen -> Use Permanent Pen and uncheck the permanent pen option. Place the cursor in the document and type something with the default text style.
