What is Domino Roaming?

Domino Roaming is a classic roaming mode where all the Notes personalized data of a roaming user is stored on domino roaming server only and administered through ‘Roaming Tool’ in Domino Administrator Client. This type of roaming is supported in all versions since 6.0.1. Both basic and standard client are supported for domino roaming. This type of roaming mainly uses AdminP processes and Replication to enable roaming and synchronized data with server.

How does an Administrator configure a user to roam using Domino Roaming?

New Roaming user registration

A user can directly be registered as Domino roaming user using Notes Advanced User registration in Domino Administrator Client. For details please refer the article: Completing registration for a Notes roaming user

Creating Notes Domino roaming user through advance registration creates roaming databases on the domino server during registration itself and then replicated back to the client during first time client setup.

Upgrade an existing non-roaming user

An administrator can also upgrade a Non Roaming user to Domino Roaming user

An Existing standard user can be upgraded into domino roaming user using ‘Roaming Tool’. When changing a non-roaming user to a Domino server roaming user, always use the roaming tools available from People and Groups -> Tools -> People, as described below. In this case roaming databases are created/replicated from the Notes client to the server.

Roaming Tool during Upgrade:
1. Open Domino Administrator Client
2. Go to People & Groups Tab
3. Select People from the left pane
4. Select and Right click on the Non Roaming User from the list of users
5. Select the Roaming… from the context menu

How does an Administrator downgrade a user from domino roaming?

Roaming Tool during downgrade:1. Open Domino Administrator Client
