The right to blog does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.

This is not an insider secret (so those of you who think we have insider secrets we're sorry to disappoint you, but they don't tell us very much around here because we're gossip mongers): Lotus Expeditor is coming soon. Although it isn't available yet, it kind of is. Lotus Expeditor is currently marketed as WebSphere Everyplace Deployment, and a trial of version 6.0 and technical content about WebSphere Everyplace Deployment is available now if you want to check it out. You can start in the developerWorks Wireless for WebSphere zone.

We want to take this opportunity to acquaint you with Lotus Expeditor because it is an important product in our software portfolio though you may not know that yet. Here are a few facts about the product:

  • The name is misspelled, and that is intentional. We don't know why. (Okay, expeditor is a variant of expediter, but it's a funnier line if we say it's misspelled.)
  • Lotus Expeditor is a family of products: client, server, and toolkit.
  • Lotus Expeditor is also a platform. With Lotus Expeditor, you can create mobile applications, composite applications, and mashups.
  • Lotus Expeditor provides the underlying programming model for Lotus Sametime V7.5 and will do the same for Lotus Notes 8. If you don't believe us, see our article, "Extending IBM Lotus Sametime Connect V7.5." Scroll down to "Figure 5. Major components of Lotus Sametime Connect" to see how WebSphere Everyplace Deployment 6.1 (Lotus Expeditor) fits into the architecture of Lotus Sametime V7.5. (Sorry, we don't have an equivalent illustration for Lotus Notes 8.)

For more information about Lotus Expeditor, visit these resources:
As always, developerWorks Lotus will have a product page on the site with links to technical resources available when Lotus Expeditor ships. You can also expect a dedicated public discussion forum. We have in the works a couple of articles already. We'll tell you more about Lotus Expeditor and its relationship to the other Lotus products as soon as they trust us with that information, so stay tuned!
