Is 2-way Notes-Notes replication possible?

We need to synchronise a database that exists in 2 Notes domains and may be updated in either. If we have 2 LEI Replication activities, with the source and target in each, then whichever activity is scheduled/run first is always the 'winner', overwriting any changes made in the target data set, even if they were made later.
This would not happen with standard Notes replication of course, but that is not an option here unless I can convince the people that there is no reason for the database not to be a replica.
Apart from having time-stamps associated with each field that may be updated in either data set, can anyone see a solution to this?
