I have a replication activity to a SQL server view failing with Error: Network operation did not complete in a reasonable amount of time; please retry
When this happens it removes all records from the Notes side

this has only recently started happening, the activity has been working OK for some time.
subsequent runs of the activity work as expected and all records are repopulated.
I would rather not enable 'skip deletions'.
Is this working correctly? should the records be deleted simply because the connection could not be made?
