You squawked, we heard, Brian fixed. The Create Picture dialog no longer defaults to .bmp - I know, shed those tears now...this is not in the Beta 2 that is posted now, but in a more recent build.
There are many, many cases of these little things that effect us everyday that are being dealt with in Notes 8.
