This is absolutely possible. But it all depends on what you consider as integrating into to the user interface !
For stuff integrating into the user interface this is normally done via iWidgets. But nothing stands in the way of creating a completly new/custum build application and give it the exact same looks/CSS and make the app available inthe applications top header menu. This way the app looks seamsly integrated into the UI of IBM Connections.
But again your exact demanding will the most important thing to completly answer your questions :-)
