This topic includes information about how to use RIM Blackberry for Lotus Connections.

Prerequisite

The Blackberry Client for IBM Lotus Connections Version 1.0 (tested on version 2) is device independent but requires Blackberry Device Software Version 4.2.1 or Blackberry Device Software Version 4.2.2.

To check your Device Software Version, press Alt+cap+h on your device and look for the Version. To upgrade your Device Software, follow the instructions at http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

(Optional): If your Lotus Connections servers do not have trusted certificates, you need to set up your device for TSL/SSL. Go to Options -> TLS, and then change the TLS default to Handheld.

The administrator of the Blackberry Enterprise Server must add the SSL/TLS certificate for the IBM Lotus Connections Web server to the Blackberry MDS key store. For more information, visit the following Web address to read article KB1 1623:

http://www.blackberry.com/support

Follow these steps:

  1. To download Lotus Connections for Blackberry, go here:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/server/domino/lotus_software.jsp#tab_tab_connections

Note: You can download the client, host it on your own servers, and point users to that URL for over-the-air download.
Tip: Copy the URL and send yourself a message to receive the URL on your device. Then, just click the URL in the e-mail message. Click Download.
  2. After the application installs, you can click OK or Run to start the application immediately. If you have a previous version of the application, your device might be prompted to reboot. If prompted, click Reboot.

Setting up preferences

(Optional) Configure the server connections so that users are not required to enter the IBM Lotus Connections server addresses manually.

To define the IBM Lotus Connections server addresses for users, import new IT policy rule definitions to the BlackBerry Manager. Visit the following Web site to read article KB15181:

http://www.blackberry.com/support

Then, follow these steps:

  1. When you start the application, enter your Lotus Connections user name and password.
  2. Click Server and then Advanced so that you can enter in separate URLs for all five services. For example:
    Dogear Server: https://connections.demoibm.com/dogear
    Profiles Server: https://connections.demoibm.com/profiles
    Communities Server: http://connections.demoibm.com/communities
    Blogs Server: http://connections.demoibm.com/blogs
    Activities Server: https://connections.demoibm.com/activities
  3. Click Save. You are then brought back to the login window and can click Login.
