There are two supported options to populate data into IBM Connections Profiles database: Profiles Administration REST API and Tivoli Directory Integrator (TDI) with plug-ins, created specially for IBM Connections. The advantages of using Tivoli Directory Integrator is that, with a number of different APIs, it requires less low level programming for being able to access an external resource and get data from them. Nevertheless, Profiles Administration REST API could be used to populate Profiles data from different type of systems, developed in different languages, and running on different platforms. It could be used in certain complex situations, for example, when Tivoli Directory Integrator plug-in for a specific systems is not functional enough, is not available at all, or is too complicated to develop. In this chapter we will discuss how Tivoli Directory Integrator works and what is a right way to use it for populating Profiles database.
4.1 Introduction to Tivoli Directory Integrator
4.2 Accessing IBM Connections from a custom Tivoli Directory Integrator assembly line
4.3 Scenario description
4.4 Setting up the development environment
4.5 Creating custom assembly line for populating selected user attributes from external database to the Profiles database
4.6 Creating custom AssemblyLine to synchronize updates from external database to the Profiles database
4.7 Make a single command line script form an AssemblyLine
