8.2 Defining a community theme

Attention: Community themes overwrite the default IBM Connections themes, thereby, changing the overall look and feel for IBM Connections. If you want to avoid this when you apply a community theme, you must remove the default Communities theme.
As a good practice, after removing the default theme, you should create a new default (called Base in this example) along with your customized theme (called Renovations in the example below).
Procedure
- Copy the defaultTheme directory from <WAR>/nav/common/styles to a new sub-directory in the following directory:
<install_dir>/<customization_dir>/common/nav/common/styles/
- Make another copy of the defaultTheme directory from <WAR>/nav/common/styles to a new sub-directory in:
<install_dir>/<customization_dir>/common/nav/common/styles/
Note: The directory names must end with "Theme". Following this format as shown above, the directories to be created are BaseTheme and RenovationsTheme.
- Rename one of the new directories to BaseTheme. This gives you a directory path that looks as follows:
<install_dir>/<customization_dir>/common/nav/common/styles/BaseTheme
- Rename the defaultTheme.css inside the new BaseTheme to BaseTheme.css.
- Rename the other new directory to RenovationsTheme. This gives you a directory path that looks as follows:
<install_dir>/<customization_dir>/common/nav/common/styles/RenovationsTheme
- Rename the defaultTheme.css inside the new RenovationsTheme directory to RenovationsTheme.css.
- Make any changes (color, styles, and so on) to RenovationsTheme.css as needed.
- To associate a thumbnail image preview with your custom theme in the theme palette, upload a <theme>.jpg file to the following directory:
<install_dir>/<customization_dir>/communities/images/

Next tasks: After defining a new theme, you have to add it to the Communities configuration file. For more information, see 8.3 Adding a theme to the Communities configuration.
