This feature is a great way to mention specific colleagues in your status updates or comments allowing you to share things with them. When they are tagged, your comment will appear in their timeline and they will receive an e-mail notification. This encourages some to add to the thread.
It's really easy to use @mentions. Simply go to your status updates page and type some text. At any point, you can insert the name of a colleague preceded by an “at" (@) sign. As you type the name, type ahead will search your company's corporate directory to attempt to find the username. You can type FirstName LastName or LastName FirstName. A list of partial name matches will display where you can select the user you want. Once their name is selected, it is linked to their Profile. To tag multiple users in a row, simply insert a space character between the name and the following @ sign prefix. You can tag as many users as you would like. As long as the username can be found in the corporate directory, when the post is saved, each tagged user will receive an e-mail notification and the post will appear in their timelime.
That’s all there is to it! Powerful feature, simple to use.
