is a collective term that describes both iWidgets and OpenSocial gadgets.
An iWidget is a small, portable application or piece of dynamic content that can easily be placed into a web page or an embedded browser within a rich client. You can write iWidgets in any language (Java
™ for the business logic, and additional metadata for the author, title, and so on.
An OpenSocial gadget is a mini application that can be embedded in web pages, applications, and other OpenSocial-enabled sites. You can write gadgets in almost any language, but they must be described by an XML document that conforms to the OpenSocial specification. Gadget XML files can be hosted anywhere on a public location on the web.
