This topic describes the steps you must perform to enable reading log messages with a text editor.
Common Base Event logging provides problem-determination data rich in activity and control-flow information that the Log and Trace Analyzer uses to accelerate problem determination and increase system serviceability and quality. The client formats CBE logging information using XML to provide a reader-friendly user interface from which you can read all system messages. If you do not want the client to produce an XML file with the logging information, you can disable common base event logging.
When you disable common base event logging, messages are formatted by the RCPFormatter. The RCPFormatter produces messages in the following format:
<date> <severity> <logger short name> <message> ::thread=<thread name> ::
loggername=<logger full name>
2006/05/09 09:50:58.463 SEVERE org.eclipse.ui Invalid Menu Extension (Path
is invalid): show_switcher ::thread=main ::loggername= org.eclipse.ui
To change the format of the log messages, perform the following steps:
- Open the rcpinstall.properties file in the user’s workspace/.config directory and then change to value of the logfile.formatter property from:
If there is no rcpinstall.properties file on the user's machine, the value of the logfile.formatter property is read from the system default rcpinstall.properties file in the com.ibm.rcp.base plugin.
- Save and close the file.
