In most cases you should be using Portal to define your wires however if you are creating components for Lotus Notes® you can use the client side Composite Application Editor to create your applications in Eclipse and have them deployed to Portal or Domino®. Both options are fine and both are completely compatible. In this section we focus on using the portal admin tools to create an application that will define pages with our portlets on them and the application is then installed onto the Lotus® Expeditor Client using the Composite Application Portal catalog.
Both tools provide a visual editor to layout your components and then wire them together. This is the point in the application development where an application aggregator pieces the separate components together to give them context within a defined solution, and why it is important to create your components in a completely decoupled fashion where they can be used under different contexts.
