IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue Server: FRS12
This guide provides the installation, configuration, and administration steps for the IBM® Lotus Foundations™ Rescue server.
The IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server is part of a disaster recovery solution designed for IBM Lotus Foundations Start servers.
To implement IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue, you need at least one IBM Lotus Foundations Start server and one IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server. Multiple IBM Lotus Foundations Start servers can use a single IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server for backup storage.
To install an IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server, you need a license to activate the remote backup features. Additionally, the IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server needs a license for every IBM Lotus Foundations Start server that sends backups to the remote backup server.
No additional licenses are needed for IBM Lotus Foundations Start servers to send backup files to the remote backup server.
The IBM Lotus Foundations Start server sends a copy of encrypted backups to the remote IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server based on the specifications of the administrator. The IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server stores the encrypted backups from the IBM Lotus Foundations Start servers. The transfer of the backups to the IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server can occur over an intranet or the Internet.
Note: The IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server is designed to store backup files; it is not designed to run IBM Lotus Foundations Start or any add-ons. Functionality unique to the IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server replaces some functionality available on an IBM Lotus Foundations Start server. The idb functionality is available on the IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server. However, it is designed to be used only when you need to transport restoration data to an IBM Lotus Foundations Start server location.
The connection between an IBM Lotus Foundations Start server and the IBM Lotus Foundations Rescue server is also encrypted.
