Running Windows SQL under VMWare on Foundations Start

expanded Abstract
collapsed Abstract
The purpose of this article is to document requirements and best practices for getting customers off seperate intel Windows SBS hardware and running Windows SBS under VMWare on Founcations Start
Step #1:  Make sure your are run Version 1.2.0b #1 of Lotus Foundations.  Look at "Web Config" - "Software Update" - "Foundations Versions already installed " (took me twice to do this.  I get the "did you reboot twice" message which makes no sense to me)

Step #2:  Download Lotus Foundations Run 1.2 (lf-run12-7568) and VMWare server (lfrun-vmware20-7568 ).  I down load the zip version, unzip on my Windows systems and then copy to the autoinstall folder on the server.

Step #3: Go to "Web Config" - "Software Update" - "Add on" and install.  Pretty uneventful.

Step #4: "Web Config" - "Add Ons" - "Virtualization" tab - "Advanced Vitualization Settings".  I was hoping to work more on this tonight but , for some reason the Advanced Virtualization Settings can not be accessed remotely.

Step #5:  Set up a virtual machine.  Don't know jack about doing this but think of it as picking features for a server (ie. how much memory, disk space, I/O stuff like USB).  Mistake I made on my first go-round is not addind a CD/DVD drive.  add that so you can mount an operating system ISO file to boot from.

Stay tuned, I'll keep working on this.  Ping me at Me@AlanK.net if you have any questions (or can help).

Also, I hope to create and ISO file that I can install on a VM session that is an exact replica of the Windows system I am trying to replace.
