In this guide are the installation, configuration, and administration steps
for the Lotus Foundations Reach add-on component. Use this guide to install
the add-on to the Lotus Foundations Start 1.1 server environment.
Lotus Foundations Reach provides the option to add integrated
and secured company-wide instant messaging, voice over IP (VoIP) and video

Before beginning the installation and configuration of Lotus Foundations
Reach, ensure you have completed the following tasks:
- Installed Lotus Foundations Start version 1.1 or later (Hardware/software
requirements and installation instructions are here. Ensure you have at least 2 GB memory installed
in your server before installing Lotus Foundations Reach. For updated system
requirements, click here.)
Note: If you are installing Lotus
Foundations Start, Lotus Foundations Reach, and the Lotus Foundations Run
add-on on a Lotus Foundations Appliance, you must use the Lotus Foundations
Advanced Model Appliance or equivalently configured third-party hardware.
- If you need to upgrade to Lotus Foundations Start version 1.1 from version
1.0, go here.
- Obtained the following:
- The autoinstallation packages for the Lotus Foundations Reach add-ons
and clients:
- lfreach-st_server802-nnnn.pkg
- lfreach-STCLIENT802-nnnn.pkg

For
more detailed information on the capabilities of Lotus Foundations Start,
the following resources are recommended:
Install the Lotus Foundations Reach add-on
The Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on installs and operates a Lotus Sametime(R) instant messaging server and
can be the basis for unified communications and collaboration.
Notes:
- The Lotus Sametime Administration
user interface is not supported for use with Lotus Foundations Reach.
- There are special considerations to take into account when a Lotus Foundations
server with Lotus Foundations
Reach joins a more complex environment, such as a system that is a member
of an NT domain or a scalable services environment. When installing into
these environments, there are certain scenarios when the imported users might
not get all the expected information.
- When the Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on is installed, joins an NT domain, and imports users, the users
imported only contain user IDs but none of the other profile information,
despite the information that might already existing in the NT domain environment.
For more information, click here.
- When the Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on is installed in a scalable services environment and made a 'master'
server, any slave added to the master with existing users, synchronizes only
the user ID information. Those users are not editable, and the profile information
might not be complete. For more information, click here.
Before you begin
Before you install the Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on, you need to disable Lotus Foundations Start. To do this, follow
these steps:
- At the WebConfig URL for the server (https://server_ip_address:8043),
select Add-ons from the menu on the left.
- In the Lotus Foundations
Start 1.1 row, select the edit icon
. In the Add-on
Automatic Start row, click the Disable radio button.
- Click Save Changes. After Lotus Foundations Start is disabled, continue
to the next section.
Notes:
- The Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on installation process enables Lotus Foundations Start so you do not
have to manually enable it later.
- After the Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on is installed, the order that Lotus Foundations Start and Lotus Foundations
Reach are disabled/enabled does not matter.
- If you choose not to disable Lotus Foundations Start before initiating
the Lotus Foundations
Reach installation, at a certain point in the Lotus Foundations Reach installation,
a warning message is displayed in the WebConfig console and the Lotus Foundations
Reach installation does not proceed until Lotus Foundations Start is disabled.
Installation steps
With Lotus Foundations
Start disabled, follow these steps:
- Copy the installation package (.pkg file) from a Windows(R) workstation
to the autoinstall file share on the Lotus Foundations server by following
these steps:
- Connect to the autoinstall file share on the Lotus Foundations
server. To do this, from a workstation, click Start -> Run and then enter '\\' followed by the
server's IP address, followed by \autoinstall. For example, \\192.168.0.1\autoinstall

displayed as: "Lotus Foundations
Reach 1.0 (Team autoinstall/lfreach-st_server802-nnnn.pkg)."
- Click Install next to the Lotus Foundations Reach add-on; read and
accept the license agreements. The installation begins immediately and may
take up to 30 minutes and can take longer when there are more user accounts
on the system.
Note: During the installation, a backup job called LF
Reach Backup is created. Do not try and back up the job until the installation
is complete.
- Click Status from the menu on the left and scroll to the Add-ons

Back up and restore Lotus Foundations Reach
When you install the Lotus Foundations Reach add-on, a backup job called LF
Reach Backup is created. The Lotus Foundations Reach add-on is backed
up the same way as Lotus Foundations Start; however, the restoration process
is different. Lotus Foundations Reach uses rsync for restoration, where Lotus
Foundations Start uses Samba. For information on using the backup options,
click here. See the next sections for restoring Lotus Foundations
Reach.
Preliminary steps
Before restoring
your data, consider the following:
- Decide what data you want to restore. You may want to restore all data,
or a specific Sametime or Domino(R) database or folder. The procedures are similar
for each case, as you have the option of choosing which folders or databases
you want to restore.
- Decide from where you want to restore the data. The stnotesbackup team
on the Lotus Foundations Server main disk contains the most recent backup,
while the idb disk contains older versions as well as the most recent backup.
The backup in the stnotesbackup team is a good place to restore
from when a database has been corrupted or data accidentally deleted from
it since the last time the LF Reach Backup ran. If you need to go back
further in time, restore from the idb disk.
Lotus Sametime restoration procedures
Restoring idb data from Lotus Sametime differs slightly from the standard idb
restore process. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure a successful
restoration of your Lotus Sametime data.
Overview of the procedure
This is an overview of the procedure. Detailed steps to complete this procedure
follow this overview.
- Stop the Lotus Foundations
Reach add-on.
- Locate the desired data to restore. Use the instructions below corresponding
to what you want to restore:
- Locating data to restore from the idb disk
- Locating data to restore from the stnotesbackup team
- Copy the desired data from the backup to the correct location. Use the
instructions below corresponding to what you want to restore:
- Restoring all data
- Restoring a specific database or file
- Restoring a specific folder
Note:
Steps 3b and/or 3c may be repeated to restore as many databases,
files, and folders as required.
- Ensure correct file ownership.

step 2a)
cd /home/stnotesbackup/Files/notesdata (for
step 2b)
- Copy the files from the backup folder of stnotesbackup to stnotes using
the following command:
rsync -rlptD backup/path to the folder
you want to restore from /home/stnotes/Files/notesdata/path to the
folder you want to restore to
Note:
This process
can take some time to complete.
Step 4: Ensure correct file ownership
- Telnet into the Lotus Foundations server and log in as root or an administrative
user, if you have not already.
- Change to the location of the Domino data:
cd /home/stnotes/Files/notesdata
- Change ownership of all files:
chown -R stnotes:stnotes .
- Exit the Telnet session.
Step 5: Restart the Lotus Foundations Reach add-on
