This version of Webform Server includes several new features and improvements.
Compelling user experience
Updates to the look and feel features of XFDL 8.0 have been incorporated into this release of Webform Server. The changes are designed to provide a rich and modern look to the forms that are presented to users. The changes are summarized below.
- Look and feel: the changes include:
- interactive glow effects on buttons (focussed, hover, click)
- gradients in buttons and labels
- new border options for most items
- type ahead in popups and combination boxes
- Modal Dialog:
You can embed web pages in a modal dialog. You can use this feature to display videos and other rich content in a form. The web page can also contain controls that interact with the form.
- HTML in pane:
You can embed a web page in an XFDL pane item. You can use this feature to display videos and other rich content in a form. The web page can also contain controls that interact with the form.
- Rich text item:
Webform Server supports the XFDL <richtext> item. The item can display text in a mixture of formats such as bold, italic and underlined, and in a variety of font styles and sizes.
Significant improvments to the user experience around page refreshes have been made. Table row additions and removals and data population via web services can now be managed without page refreshes.

Support for newer browser versions has been added. The recommended browser versions include:
- Internet Explorer 8
- Firefox 3.6
- Safari 5 on Mac
Document accessibility has been enhanced by using ARIA markup to indicate mandatory fields, invalid input in fields, and navigation landmarks.

Improved precision of CJK fonts resulting in more accurate layout
Improved deployment and developer experience
The following changes and updates have been made for this release:
Webform Server runs on 64-bit versions of all supported hardware.
- Forms View Portlet:
The Forms View Portlet lets you integrate IBM® Forms into a WebSphere® Portal page. The Forms View Portlet lets you render IBM Forms using Webform Server and supports all Webform Server functionality including save, print, and submit.
Integration with WebSphere Application Server logging system. As a result, the Log Server has been removed from Webform Server.
New sample applications have been created. The samples demonstrate the new features and how to develop your own applications.
The version of Dojo that Webform Server uses in its web pages is now included with the installation. You can find it in the redist folder, with the name dojo.ibm.standard-1.4.3-20100331.zip.
- Error page:
The error page has been redesigned. It no longer displays a stack trace. Instead, a brief error message is displayed with a timestamp. To find the stack trace, search the error log for the timestamp.

- Platform support changes:
Support has been added for Portal 6.1.5, Portal 7, and Mashups 2.0.
- Java™ support changes:
Java 1.4.2 is not longer supported. Support for Java 1.6 has been added.
- XFDL support changes:
In addition to support for XFDL 8.0, Webform Server now allows you to combine XFDL buttons and XForms buttons.
