A Webform Server installation consists of two main components: Webform Server application framework and Translator server.
Webform Server application framework contains your servlet and portlet applications, and acts as the front end of the system. It is often referred to as the framework
or sometimes as the front end
. It conducts the communications among the client browser, your applications, and Translator.
Translator does the work of converting XFDL forms into HTML, and should be accessible only from the application server. Translator should not be directly accessible from client browsers outside your firewall.
In addition to the two main components, other components of the system include the shared file cache
and the access control database
. During installation, you will be prompted for location and connection details of these components. Be sure to read the Installation overview
topic and the Before installing
topic before running the installer.
