The best approach for deploying Quickr is with a centralized infrastructure and high speed network. Sometime this is not available so Quickr can be deployed in a distributed manner. Typically this distribution will involve independent servers that contain unique places. It is possible however to put places on both servers so that users can access the local version and avoid the network performance hit of going over the WAN.
These instructions are going to use
Source server = serverone
Target server = servertwo
Place = sharedplace
Step One - Create replica stubs on second server
Quickr includes a command utility called qptool. The qptool command utility can be used to create replica stubs; the syntax would be load qptool replicamaker -t targetserver -p placelist. The qptool command are load from the Domino server console. For this scenario, from the console issue:
load qptool replicamaker -t servertwo -p sharedplace
Note 1a: The replicamaker command will only create stubs it will not move any data
Note 1b: It is also possible (but not recommended) to copy the place folder over to the target server instead of using replicamaker however the replicamaker command is generally easier and will work with multiple places by simply separating them by spaces in the command above.
Step Two - Configure replication
There is nothing Quickr specific in the replication configuration. Replication is configured using standard Domino practices.
1. Open the Domino Name and Address Book on serverone
2. Go to the Configuration -> Servers -> Connections view
3. Click Add Connection
4. Fill in the Basics tab as follows:
5. Fill in the Schedule tab as follows:
6. Save and Close the document
7. Restart the server so that it loads the replication configuration
Note 2a - Within a couple of minutes of restarting the server will run the replication which will initialize the place databases and load the content.
Step 3 - Add place to catalog on server two
At this point the place is valid on the new server and can be opened by issuing the URL directly to the place however the place will not appear in the catalog on the second server. To add the place to the catalog issue the following command from the servertwo console:
load qptool register -install -p sharedplace
After this step the place will be available on both servers and will stay synchronized through the domino replication. If additional places are configured for synchronization in the future the second step can be skipped since the configured replication will already cover any places that exist on both servers.
