Upgrading the IBM® Lotus® QuickPlace™ 6.5.1 or 7.0 server requires installing IBM Lotus Domino® 8.5 and IBM Lotus Quickr
TM 8.2 on a new server for your Microsoft® Windows® or IBM AIX® operating system. It also requires that you have completed the preliminary steps to prepare your existing environment for upgrade.
You need to complete backing up places and placetypes and reviewing Lotus Quickr technotes as previously described before you start the upgrade process.
If the Lotus QuickPlace 6.5.1 or 7.0 server uses the Lotus Domino server as a user directory, before continuing the upgrade process, you must replicate the names.nsf between the existing and new Lotus Domino servers.
If the Lotus Domino server is in a clustered environment, replicate the Lotus QuickPlace files throughout the cluster to ensure you have the most recent files before starting the upgrade process. Then, work with only one Lotus QuickPlace server and one Lotus Quickr server, and migrate the upgraded files throughout the target cluster when the upgrade is complete.
- Make sure you have completed the steps in the Preparing to upgrade topic.
- If you are upgrading a Lotus QuickPlace server that is set up for offline use, offline users should perform the following steps on their clients before you stop the server for the final time. Users will need to re-install places offline after the upgrade is complete.
1. Synchronize offline places with the Lotus QuickPlace server.
2. Click
Start > Programs > Lotus Domino Sync Manager > Uninstall Lotus Domino Sync Manager.
3. Shut down the Lotus QuickPlace machine.
4. If Lotus QuickPlace uses LDAP as a user directory, install a new Lotus Domino 8.5 server to run Lotus Quickr 8.2, known as the target server.
If QuickPlace uses the Lotus Domino server as a user directory, install the new Domino server according to the steps appropriate for your environment:
- If Lotus Quickr is the only Lotus Domino server in the environment:
1. Copy names.nsf from the previous install into the new server install location.
2. Also copy over the location for original server, cert and admin ID files.
3. Run Domino 8.5 server setup.
4. Select Set up the first server or a stand-alone server.
5. Enter server name and tile.
6. Select I want to use an existing server ID file.
7. Select I want to use an existing certifier ID file.
8. Enter Domain name.
9. Select I want to use an existing Administrator ID file.
10. Select services to run by default.
11. Configure network ports.
12. Configure secure settings.
13. Confirm server settings.
14. Finish setup.
- If there are other Lotus Domino servers in the environment:
1. Obtain directory from other server in Domain.
2. Obtain location for original server.id file.
3. Run Domino 8.5 server setup.
4. Select Set up an additional server.
5. Select location of ID file.
6. Confirm server name.
7. Select services to run by default.
8. Configure network ports.
9. Select other server to provide system databases.
10. Select set up as a primary domino directory.
11. Configure secure settings.
12. Confirm server settings.
13. Finish setup.
5. Install Lotus Quickr 8.2 on the target server. See
Installing on Windows or
Installing on AIX in the Lotus Quickr 8.2 Information Center.
Note: Be sure to complete all of the steps, including
Enabling the Domino Servlet Engine and if necessary,
Enabling UTF-8 Character Encoding.
6. Install the latest available Lotus Quickr 8.2 fix pack for your target server operating system. Installation instructions are included in the Readme document.
7. Configure the user directory and other Lotus Quickr options to match the previous Lotus QuickPlace options.
8. Compare the new qpconfig.xml settings with the saved qpconfig.xml backup file, and update all user-defined settings to match your previous Lotus QuickPlace environment.
9. Perform the following steps appropriate to your operating system:
For Microsoft Windows:
1. Copy the existing Lotus QuickPlace places to the Lotus Quickr 8.2 server.
Use a file system command to copy the place's directory and contents from the domino_data_root/QuickPlace directory on the original server to domino_data_root/LotusQuickr on the target server.
2. Copy the Lotus QuickPlace customized placetypes to the Lotus Quickr 8.2 server.
Use a file system command to copy the customized placetype's directory and contents from the domino_data_root/QuickPlace/AreaType directory on the original server to domino_data_root/LotusQuickr/AreaType on the target server.

Note: Copying the place folder can change the owner of the folder. If this occurs, use the chown and chmod commands to restore the original settings.
2. Copy the Lotus QuickPlace customized placetypes to the Lotus Quickr 8.2 server.
Use a file system command to copy the customized placetype's directory and contents from the domino_data_root\QuickPlace\AreaType directory on the original server to domino_data_root\LotusQuickr\AreaType on the target server.
Note: Copying the customized placetype directory can change the owner of the directory. If this occurs, use the chown and chmod commands to restore the original settings.
3. Clear the browser cache on offline clients.
Microsoft Internet Explorer users who used places offline in a previous release, should perform the following steps to clear their browser cache before installing places offline in the current release.
i. From Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files.
