2.1 Goals and scope of theme customization for this example
This chapter begins with an overview of the default standard place theme
used in IBM Lotus Quickr services for IBM Lotus Domino version 8.1. The
composition of the default theme is covered in detail, including a breakdown of
the theme's page layout, and the file structure of the default theme. The
chapter then covers the intended end point of our customization, the Millennia
custom theme, and proceeds in showing a detailed step by step process on how
the customization is achieved. Also included in this chapter is a section
demonstrating how the default blog and wiki placeTypes are customized. Finally,
theme development tools used in the customization are discussed.
When we create a place in Quickr, the place is initially presented with the
default standard place theme. We can select from a Theme Gallery of predefined
?themes? to customize the look and layout of the place. We can also create
custom themes to add to the Theme Gallery. A Quickr theme controls aspects such
as fonts and background colors, how an element looks when it is selected, and
where the navigational controls are displayed. By creating a custom theme for
the ITSO Millennia Company, we provide their place with a strong brand identity
and design it to match their corporate look and feel.
