Complete day-to-day tasks required to successfully administer the server. Use administration tools to create and manage users and groups and manage access control. Also manage places and place policies.
Understanding administration tools: qp85
There are a variety of tools available to help you complete administration tasks. There are links to administration sites within the IBM® Lotus® Quickr™ for WebSphere Portal footer which go to Places Administration, Place Catalog Administration, or Advanced Administration.
Starting the server: qp85
Start the Lotus Quickr server.
Stopping the server: qp85
Stop the Lotus Quickr application server.
Changing passwords used by Lotus Quickr: qp85
Update modified or expired database passwords in WebSphere® Application Server.
Managing users and groups: qp85
Add or remove users, create and manage groups, find out what characters are supported for user IDs and passwords, and set limits on searches for users and groups.
Controlling access: qp85
After creating users and groups, you can assign them access to specific resources, roles, and policies to control what pages and components they have access to. If a user or group does not have access to a component, then that component will not be an available customization option.
Managing policies: qp85
A policy is a collection of settings that influences the behavior of a resource and the experience that users will have when working with the resource. Policies simplify the management of resources because the policy settings for a resource type can control the behavior of the resource for different users and groups. For sites that comprise large numbers of users and resources, specifying and applying policies to portal resources eliminates much time-consuming effort that would otherwise require administrators to manage a vast array of discrete settings for users and resources.
Managing places: qp85
From Places, you can assign policies, view summaries, lock and unlock places, back up and archive places, send mail to place managers or members, print the places catalog, and subscribe to the places feed.
Working with templates: qp85
From Templates in Place Administration, you can import and export, edit, delete, unlock, assign policies to templates, print the templates catalog, and subscribe to the templates feed. For more template operations click Manage Templates
to access the WebSphere Portal templates portlet.
Managing library settings: qp85
As an administrative user, you can define shared document templates and properties that are available to all libraries on the server.
Disabling the library plugin: qp85
Administrators can disable the plug-in for all libraries on a server, or allow individual library managers to disable the plug-in for their own libraries.
Language support: qp85
To reach as many users as possible, Lotus Quickr supports different languages for different locations. For instance, a large, international corporation might address users in different countries or regions through multilingual Web sites. In this context the portal can concurrently serve portal views to large numbers of users, each in user's preferred language.
