In multiple server environments, you can configure a single places catalog or multiple places catalogs, depending on the environment. You can configure a single favorites service.
You can configure a single places catalog that is used by all of the servers. Note that if your servers are physically far part this configuration can lead to performance issues.
You can configure a places catalog on each server and create sources on each server pulling in places catalog data from the other servers.
You can configure some combination of the two, for example all of the servers in New York might use the same places catalog, but a server in San Francisco might have its own places catalog and sources that point to the New York catalog.
