Run Document Conversion Services on a remote server.
Before running Document Conversion Services on a remote server, you must update the content-types.properties
file as described in Enabling Document Conversion Services
To better balance processing power, Document Conversion Services can be delegated to a remote server. Enabling this delegation requires steps on both Lotus® Quickr™ and the remote system.
Linux® on PowerPC®:
Document conversion services must be performed on a remote WebSphere® Application Server that supports document conversion services. Local document conversion is not supported on Linux for PowerPC.
To enable Document Conversion Services on a remote server:
- Install WebSphere Application Server on the remote system. The remote system must be supported by Stellent 8.0.1.
- Copy the file remotedcs.zip, at the site entitled Separate upgrade of Remote Document Conversion Services server is required, to the remote server and unzip it in the directory of choice. Use the appropriate unzip tool for your operating system:
A dcs directory is created with many files and subdirectories in it.
Deploy dcs.war into WebSphere Application Server using the administrative console. The war file will be found in the unzipped directory, and the user should specify a context root of dcs. You should not change the default application name dcs_war.
Run the config script found in the unzipped directory. It is setupdcs.bat for Windows; setupremotedcs.sh for all other systems.
The oiexport directory should be added in PATH as well as in the Library path.
- Windows®: pkzip
- AIX®: unzip
Table 1. Platform and library path
Restart the server.

|Linux ||LD_LIBRARY_PATH |
Once Document Conversion Services is installed on the remote server, perform the following steps:
- Update the following property in the wp_profile_root/ConfigEngine/properties/wpconfig.properties file:
DcsRemoteHost: URL of the remote host
where the value of DcsRemoteHost
is the URL of the remote host that provides document conversion services. For example, http://remotehost:port number/dcs/dcs
. The variable port number
refers to the port on which dcs.war
- Run one of the following configuration tasks to delegate some or all of the document conversion functions to the remote server. The possible tasks are:
Restart the portal server.
The following command can be used to run the task:
Directory structure/ConfigEngine/properties/ConfigEngine.sh <task_name>
For example: wp_profile_root/ConfigEngine/properties/ConfigEngine.sh delegate-all-conversions
You should now be able to invoke the converters.
