There are two levels of document types, local and shared. When you create a new document type, the document type is local by default.
There are two levels of document types, local and shared. When you create a new document type, the document type is local by default. You can create a shared document type by clicking the Create shared document type
option in the New Document Type page.
Local document type
The document type is defined in the current document library, and is not visible to users of other document libraries.Shared document type
The document type is defined and stored in the content repository on the current server, and is visible to users of other document libraries.
When you click Manage Library
-> Manage Library elements
-> Document types
from the main Library page, a list of the local document types is displayed by default. To see a list of the shared document types, click Shared
in the Manage Document Types page.
To change a local document type to a shared document type, click on the down arrow next to the document type name in the list of local document types, then click Move to shared
. If you create a local document type with local property sheets and or local document templates, when you change the local document type to shared, the local property sheets and local document templates are also changed to shared.
