Products across the IBM social software portfolio now share a consistent user experience.
Closer integration with IBM Lotus Connections
Lotus Quickr and Lotus Connections now share a common look and feel. And now Lotus Connections services can be added to the top navigation in Lotus Quickr.
Places catalog replaces My Places
in Lotus Quickr 8.5. Click the Public Places
tab to see a list of public places. Click the My Places
tab to see a list of places you own or are a member of. Administrators can control what places are available in places catalog by clicking a Places Catalog Administration
link at the bottom of Lotus Quickr.
Enhanced member and role management
Place managers can click Members
from any page in a place to manage place members. Places can be set up to allow any authenticated user to join or leave the place on their own by clicking a button.
Managers can click Places Actions
-> Manage roles
to customize existing roles and create new roles to fit the needs of the place, and limit access to specific pages.
Robust place customization
Place managers can click Customize
to perform simple customization such as changing the look and layout of a place. They can also add components such as blogs, wikis, or libraries. They can click Place Actions
to perform more advanced customization, such as editing place properties, managing place roles, or deleting the place from the server.
New feed reader
Have multiple feeds in one space, eliminating the need for more than one feed reader.
New administration tools
Click Places Administration
at the bottom of Lotus Quickr to manage places, templates, and policies. Display, clear, or download various statistics about all places on the server. Configure searches over multiple servers or a cluster, allowing you to federate over place content across the cluster.
Portal administration tools are now accessible using Advanced Administration
at the bottom of Lotus Quickr.
Custom libraries for ECM content
Create Custom Libraries to connect to Enterprise Content Management libraries from a Lotus Quickr place. You can then create new documents, edit existing documents, replace documents and delete documents on an Enterprise Content Management server directly from a place.
Improved editing experience
The editing experience is improved by the new CKEditor, a WYSIWYG open source text editor designed for use inside web pages.
More control over documents and libraries
Place managers can restrict uploads to the library by file type and file size. Administrators can set the SMTP server for document notification and enable or disable the documents browser plug-in across all libraries on a server. They can also allow individual place managers to manage these settings. Place managers can list all working drafts, and check in or delete working drafts. To prevent library users from uploading files with viruses, configure the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP) through the WebSphere® Application Server administrative console. Administrators can disable the ability to install the library plug-in and set upload restrictions on file size and file type.
IBM WebSphere Portal 6.1.5 infrastructure
IBM® WebSphere Portal 6.1.5 now provides the Lotus Quickr infrastructure. By aligning with the latest release of WebSphere Portal, Lotus Quickr can leverage the latest WebSphere Portal fixes. It is now possible to directly install WebSphere Portal fixes on a Lotus Quickr server
Properties for certain document types (including for ECM repositories) can be required. And a user-initiated publish option helps manage server load instead of always publishing drafts automatically. Plus the place connector for Lotus Symphony can be installed with the rest of the place connectors from the same file.
