The upgrade process ensures the preservation of: data, forms, themes, custom code (such as placebots, views, and other design elements), event hooks or agents, and placetypes.
Design (schema) upgrade
All system design documents and any other system documents will be upgraded; that is, replaced or modified as needed. For example, a number of views were modified and new views created, all of which will be introduced into all places. This schema upgrade is necessary for all places.
For Lotus® Quickr™ 8.5 places using the new theme and user interface, the dependency on ActiveX and the DnD (drag-and-drop) applet has been removed. Also, the Quickr server supports a Preview capability that supports the imported file(s) functionality that used to exist in version 8.2. The upgrade process runs through all place content and re-maps form definitions as follows:
Table 1. Forms in Lotus Quickr 8.5 for Domino
|Form in 8.5||Description|
|Upload||Single file upload. This form supports the upload action previously provided the Upload forms for single, multiple, and no attachments in Quickr 8.2.|
|Page||Create a web document with rich text and optional attachments (similar to 8.2)|
|Event||Calendar event (similar to 8.2)|
|Task||Simple task (similar to 8.2)|
|Link||Link page (similar to 8.2)|
|Imported Page||Single file upload with preview on the web. This form supports the import action previously provided by the Microsoft® Word, Excel, and Multiple Imported forms in Quickr 8.2.|
|List||Create a list by defining fields or by importing a file|
|Custom Library||To point to an ECM library (only available when ECM is enabled on the server)|
Lotus Quickr 8.5 employs a new architecture for theme support. If a place used the default theme in version 8.2, the place will be switched to use the Quickr Standard theme for Places (8.5) default theme and will have the following new features and functions:
- Trash (Recycle Bin)
- Imported File pages (that use a server-side preview facility)
- Custom Library
- New layout of content, comments, versions, attachments, and so on
If a place used any other theme from version 8.2, the place will retain its prior look and feel as the theme will not automatically get changed to the 8.5 default theme. Consequently, the new features and functions mentioned above will not be available. In order to enable the new functions and features, the theme will need to be changed to the default Quickr 8.5 theme either manually or using a qptool setTheme command.
Once the theme has been changed, you will not be able to revert to the original 8.2 theme's look and feel.
Customized template and placetype issues
Forcing all placetypes that used the default theme to upgrade to the new 8.5 theme might cause issues, particularly if there was custom design elements and code in the place. By default, these placetypes should not be affected by the upgrade process and remain usable.
