In Lotus Symphony 3.0, you can insert files to Symphony files. This feature is fully functional only on the Windows operating system. On Linux and Mac, you can insert the contents of other Symphony files only, and you can view only some of the non-Symphony files inserted by Windows users.
Inserting a file attachment in Lotus Symphony (Windows Operating System)
The steps below can be used to insert a file to a Symphony document, presentation or spreadsheet.
Step | Action |
1 | Open the file in Symphony where you want to create the attachment. This can be a document, presentation or spreadsheet. |
2 | Position your cursor where you want to attach the file. You'll be able to easily drag this to a new location if you change your mind. |
3 | Choose Create OLE Object. |
4 | In the Insert OLE Object box, select Further objects. This choice will only be available on the Windows operating system.
 |
5 | Click OK. |
6 | In the Insert Object window, select Create from File. Use the Browse button to locate the file that you wish to attach. Most commonly you want to display the file attachment as an icon. You need to select this option or the contents of the file will be inserted instead of the icon.
 |
7 | Click OK. |
8 | Depending on the type of file that you chose to insert, an icon will be displayed. Also, when the icon is inserted, the file that is being attached will open in its native program. For example, if you insert a PDF file, the attachment represented by the icon appears in your Symphony file and will open in Adobe Acrobat. |
Note for Mac and Linux users: You will not have the option of further objects as seen in Step 4. You can insert the contents of other Symphony files into a file, but you will not have the option to insert a Symphony file as an icon or to insert other file types.
