Creating different headers and footers for left and right pages in a document
|
|
It is a common scenario to have no header or footer on the first page of a document and different headers/footers for left facing pages and right facing pages. The following steps show you how to create these different headers based on Page Styles. This example specifies Headers only, but the steps can also be applied to Footers.
Step | Action |
1 |
Position the cursor on the first page of your document.
|
2 |
Open the Style List pane of the Sidebar by clicking the Styles List tab or hitting the F11 key.
|
3 | In the Style List pane, change the Style type to Page Styles. If you have not already applied a style to this page, the style will be Default.
 |
4 | In the Style list, select First Page. |
5 | At the bottom of the Style List pane, click Apply and then Modify. |
6 | On the Style Tab, change the Next Style to Left Page.

Optional - If you require a Header on the first page, click on the Header tab and select Header on. |
7 | Click OK to save the changes. |
8 | Move the cursor to the first Left facing page. |
9 | From the Style List, select Left Page and click Apply, then click Modify. |
10 | On the Style tab, change the Next Style to Right Page. On the Header tab, select Header on.
 |
11 | Click OK to save the changes. |
12 | Move the cursor to the first Right facing page. |
13 | From the Style List, select Right Page and click Apply, then click Modify. |
14 | On the Style tab, change the Next Style to Left Page. On the Header tab, select Header on. |
15 | Once you establish these Page styles, the remaining pages in your document will use these alternating Left page and Right page styles. The sample document below contains these styles.
